Hotel Skarrildhus lies in a unique natural setting on the banks of Karstoft River.
Skarrildhus is famous for its rhododendron gardens and excellent cuisine. The original Skjern River salmon was rediscovered here, which later motivated the reintroduction of the species of salmon to Skjern River. The discovery is commemorated by a work of landscape art called “The Salmon”, which is a 25-metre long stone statue, created by artist Jørn Rønnau. In the 1840s this location was called Clasonsborg. It was the site of the first clothing factory in the Herning area.
Visitors do well to drop by “Skov Snogen” (The Grass Snake) – a nature playground and information centre in Døvling-Meldgaard woods, where there are gigantic beetles, shacks and the giant grass snake itself to play on. Forest fun for the whole family. www.skarrildhus.dk
